Contribution Rules

Federal law governs who can contribute to The Reconstruction PAC, how much, and what we are required to report. Read this before contributing.

Last Updated: April 26, 2026

The Reconstruction PAC is a federally registered non-connected political action committee (PAC) subject to the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) and FEC regulations. The following rules apply to all contributions.

Who Can Contribute

The following individuals and entities may make contributions to The Reconstruction PAC:

  • U.S. citizens — regardless of where they reside
  • Lawfully admitted permanent resident aliens (green card holders) — may contribute to PACs (but not directly to federal candidates in some circumstances; see FEC guidance)
  • U.S.-incorporated businesses owned by U.S. citizens may in some circumstances contribute through separate segregated funds — contact us for details

Contribution Limits

Under federal law, the following limits apply:

  • Individuals: Maximum of $5,000 per calendar year to The Reconstruction PAC
  • Other multicandidate PACs: Maximum of $5,000 per calendar year
  • Non-multicandidate PACs: Maximum of $5,000 per calendar year

These limits are per calendar year (January 1 – December 31), not per election. Contributions exceeding these limits will be returned.

Prohibited Sources — Federal Law Prohibitions

The following sources are strictly prohibited from making contributions to The Reconstruction PAC. Knowingly making a prohibited contribution is a federal criminal offense.

  • Corporations (for-profit and nonprofit) — corporate treasury funds may not be contributed
  • Labor organizations — union treasury funds may not be contributed
  • National banks
  • Federal government contractors — any person or entity with a current federal contract is prohibited from contributing
  • Foreign nationals — including foreign citizens, foreign corporations, and any entity organized under foreign law; this prohibition applies regardless of where a foreign national resides
  • Minors — individuals under 18 years of age may not contribute
  • Contributions in another person's name — making a contribution on behalf of another person using that person's funds, but in your own name, is prohibited
  • Contributions from funds you don't own — you may only contribute from funds you personally own and control

Required Disclosures

Federal law requires The Reconstruction PAC to collect and report certain information:

  • For all contributions: Contributor name, mailing address, and date and amount of contribution
  • For contributions exceeding $200 in a calendar year: Also required: occupation and name of employer (or "self-employed" or "retired" if applicable)
  • Public disclosure: Contributions exceeding $200 in aggregate per calendar year are publicly disclosed in FEC filings, including the contributor's name, address, occupation, and employer. This information is publicly searchable on FEC.gov.
